STEM Education in Pakistan

 

Introduction:


Science, technology, engineering, and arithmetic (STEM) may be a broad term to group together these academic disciplines. This term is often accustomed address an education policy or curriculum choices in schools. Previously it was called SMET, STEEM, STREAM etc. This program is already working in many regions such as Canada, U.k, the USA, China etc.

 

The objective of STEM:


It has importance for

 1. Workforce development

  •  Critical analysis  
  •   Creative thinking 
  •  Problem-solving                                         
          2 . National security concerns (such as a shortage of STEM-educated citizens can reduce effectiveness in this area) ultimately will affect the limited resources of the country 

3. Immigration policy, to stop immigration or brain drainage.

 

STEM in Pakistan :

The stem was launched in Pakistan in 2020 and was successful but the number of entries from the schools was very low. At first, the program was commenced at the secondary and elementary levels. Now the primary level is also allowed to participate in increasing the number of entries. The government is motivated to generate skilful labour. The same kind of interest is required from the focal persons of the STEM competition stakeholders.

 

Categories and disciplines:

A student may participate in the seven below mentioned disciplines.

Limitations:  

One student will perform one project.

In a group performance not more than two students are allowed to perform.

The duration of the video should not be more than two minutes. Video of less than one minute will not be accepted.

Static and display only models will not be accepted.

Primary students will participate in three subcategories: breath challenge, stop motion and time-lapse video.

 

Requirements:


The student will give a brief introduction in the video. Students will tell his name, class name, school name, tehsil and district.

Video can be recorded in seven above mentioned disciplines and three categories.

Entries in both Urdu and English will be acceptable.

An original quality video will qualify for the next level.

After recording headteacher will tag the school name and Emis code on the video and send the video to the DMO office.

Avoid sending videos multiple times.
